Less than 24 hours before the weigh-in, the three-time world champion Juan Manuel Marquez and Sergey Fedchenko where out promoting their champion battle that will take place this Saturday, April 14 in the brand new Arena Ciudad de Mexico and will mark the return of Marquez to his hometown after an 18 year absence. “Its a big responsibility for me to fight in this new arena after an 18 year absence. My first eight professional fights were here in Mexico City, but I never had a championship fight in Mexico and I’m really looking forward to Saturday night,” said Marquez.

Alvarado vs Herrera live Fight @ 14th April 2012

Mauricio Herrera inks contract to fight Mike Alvarado on April 14 under the much anticipated Rios-Gamboa card . Building champions one fight at a time. That is the slogan that Thompson Boxing Promotions has followed in the past when making the careers of champions such as Timothy Bradley and Yonnhy Perez.

The Alvarado-Herrera fight will be the first fight of the night on the card and it’s still unknown if it will make it on television. My guess is no. This is a decent fight but still not the big fight that the 31-year-old Alvarado has been looking for. Herrera, also 31, has won his last five fights since losing an eight round split decision to Mike Anchondo in December 2009.

Brandon Rios vs Richard Abril (HBO Boxing Top Rank PPV)

Rios vs Abril live HBO boxing on 14th April 2012 . WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) will be getting a shot to win back his title against Cuban Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) next month on April 14th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With Richard Abril now in for April 14 against Brandon Rios in Las Vegas, he and his trainer are sounding very confident that they can pull the upset and make a big name for themselves. Abril's trainer Osmiri Fernandez makes clear that the fight will have a 135-pound limit, and that he feels Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO) has the right skill set to give the ferocious Mexican all kinds of trouble.

HBO Boxing : Marquez vs Fedchenko

On April 14th, HBO will have two fights shown in a pay-per-view split site telecast fight card with Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KO’s) vs Serhiy Fedchenko (30-1, 13 KO’s) in one of the main fights with former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) fighting Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) in the other big fight on the card. To me, both these fights look like mismatches and I can’t see either of them being worth it to pay to see this. I like value for my money.

I know a certain percentage of boxing fans will purse the card just to see Rios and Marquez, ignoring the fact that these two separate fights are clear mismatches with stars facing lesser opponents. I don’t think this card is worthy of Pay-per-view. I’ve seen a lot of Manny Pacquiao cards that had mismatches from top to bottom, but this one ranks right up there with those in my view.

Marquez believes Fedchenko is a very dangerous opponent .

Three division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6, 39KOs) is taking no chances with his upcoming fight on April 14th in Mexico City. Marquez will face Sergey Fedchenko (30-1, 13KOs) of Ukraine for the vacant interim-WBO 140-pound title.

Marquez was originally scheduled to take on Argentine boxer Cesar Rene Cuenca, who is unbeaten with 42 wins, but only a single knockout on his record. Cuenca fell through and Fedchenko stepped in. Marquez believes Fedchenko is a very dangerous opponent, and certainly more dangerous than Cuenca.

What Arum should do instead of matching Rios against Marquez in July would be to ignore that fight and just throw Rios in with Pacquiao to get torn apart in 2012. Arum can always toss Rios in against Marquez after Rios loses to Pacquiao. Rios could then take another beating and fans would likely forget about him.
